Troubleshooting Tips for Gas Furnaces

Having a gas furnace at home is an invaluable appliance in the bitter cold months. As with any appliance that gets overworked, you can expect some wear and tear that will affect the unit’s performance and efficiency. When your furnace acts up, and you can’t do the troubleshooting yourself, call a professional immediately.
Furnace Doesn’t Run
If your furnace doesn’t turn on in the first place, the power might be out. Check for any circuit breakers that might have tripped, or fuses that have blown. Sometimes, it can also be caused by an overload in the motor, in which case you should wait for a few minutes before resetting the furnace.

Insufficient Heat
This perhaps is one of the most prevalent furnace problems. It could be as simple as having set the thermostat too low, or a dirty air filter. It could also be something more serious like a system that’s out of balance, a broken blower belt, or a dirty burner. In these cases, you should seek the help of a professional.

Noisy Furnace
Noise is a good indication of wear, so if your gas furnace seems to be getting louder with each day, it might be time to consider a replacement pretty soon. Also, it might be that the motor and blower simply need a bit of lubrication.
