Let’s Clear the Air

A working HVAC system is at its best when it provides adequate cooling or heating to the house. However, all of that will be for naught when the occupants do not breathe as well under normal conditions. Your house must undergo air quality testing to ensure the HVAC system is in optimal condition. Here are a number of warning signs that tell you to seek help from an HVAC contractor:

Silent Killers
One of the most prominent threats to watch out for in an HVAC system will be carbon monoxide (CO). CO can be generated by malfunctioning furnaces and heating stoves that have been left on for long periods of time. They are often labeled the “silent killer” due to their odorless nature and the potential to fatally render people unconscious within minutes. As such, the best defense is to install CO sensors at important locations and have the furnace checked often.
Asbestos
Known as a fire retardant and insulation material, asbestos has reaped notoriety as a trigger of lung cancer and long-term lung scarring. A good air testing program can identify the locations of asbestos hotspots, but a remediation specialist should be called in to remove them.
Molds

Mold concentrations appear due to high moisture levels resulting from various circumstances. Your HVAC contractor can assist by installing dehumidifiers to lower the incidence of mold buildup. However, an insulation specialist should also inspect the house for other hot spots.
